Synopsis: Mare lives in the Kingdom of Norta, which is cruelly divided into two categories; the Reds and the Silvers. While the hard-working and poor citizens live as Reds, the rich and arrogant citizens are Silvers, the Royal Family of Norta, lords and ladies and dukes and duchesses are all born as regal Silvers. Mare (a Red, who steals to help her family survive) has no option but to join the army at the age of eighteen, like every other Red, unless she finds a job.
When Mare lands herself in a job at the Royal Palace, she and all the Silvers around her, are shocked to find Mare in possession of a rare, unusual but dangerous power. While only the Silvers in the kingdom have powers, the discovery of Mare's gift threatens to destroy the reputation and balance of the world the Silvers have created. Taken in as a long-lost Silver princess, Mare is aware that one false move could mean the difference between life and death. Mare has to find a way to bring down the rule of the cruel Silvers. Will she be able to succeed?
Review: Red Queen is an amazing book. As a fan of dystopian fiction I had every reason to love it. Nevertheless, I'm sure even someone who is uncomfortable with this genre would love Red Queen. Not only is it gripping, but it also envelopes you in a mix of emotions that make you feel you're living alongside Mare in her world. The plot twists and the beautiful prose Aveyard has penned make you imagine every inch of Norta. Aveyard has won lots of fans with just one book. Red Queen is a unique blend of Divergent, The Selection Series and The Hunger Games. It is impossible to put down. It is well set out and easy to understand. This book is immensely enjoyable whether the reader is young or old ,a bookworm or a movie buff. Everyone should get a taste of Red Queen. Aveyard ended the book with a cliffhanger that left me yearning for more. I absolutely can't wait for the sequel of Red Queen. Truly fantastic!
